Normally we think of Russell McOrmond as an important part of our team and Laura Murray is a client engaged in one of many non-profits we host. However today they are both Canadan comic book heros thanks to a new publication put out to raise awareness about the conservative's proposed copyright bill.
Russell's the person who originally convinced me to go with open source and has been a strong advocate of sane intellectual property regulation for over a decade. His blog, Digital Copyright, is a great place to read up on the latest news on this issue.
Laura Murray is head of Fair Copyright Canada and has been adding useful information on this issue for years now.
Copyright policy is a hard thing for folks to get excited about. It has been great to see the mobilization of people and activities through Facebook, as well as great sites like Boing Boing, which is how I found this article. Groups like Net Neutrality & radio shows like Search Engine on CBC Radio have been useful to get this out a broader audience.
I haven't seen this type of pdf comic before, but it was quite useful. The embedded links made it quite easy to point folks to the longer arguments and more information without having to publish a whole book. The PDF distrobution was great too as it makes it much easier to distribute. I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a Creative Commons bug tossed up on it though, as the comic is clearly free but under what license?
