Wanted to add a quick note to say that the drinks & discussion organized around Tony Clarke's book, Inside the Bottle: Exposing the Bottled Water Industry, was quite good. Tony's played a key role in organizing on trade issues for decades now and has most recently been leading the charge at the Polaris Institute. He gave a good overview of why bottled is a problem for our health & the environment. Both of the sites above are running with Drupal, as are most of the NGO sites I've seen launched in Canada in the last year.
The Oz Cafe was completely packed for the event. I was impressed at how many people I didn't know. Gotta say that the art, food setting were pretty good. Nice space for launch party.
I don't know how people found out about the event, but I did bother to ask a few people that I knew. A couple of them did find out about it through Facebook and so thought that it was worth looking at this a bit more. Lisa Greaves, owner of Octopus Books, used Facebook's event tool quite successfully to use it both to initially get folks to commit to attending, but also in using it's mail2group function to allow her as the administrator to send us all a reminder earlier that day.
With all of the goofy Facebook images that people are putting up it is difficult at times to tell how many folks who said that they were attending, or maybe attending actually did. There were certainly folks I didn't see there, but then again I don't know how many people didn't get in due to lack of space.
