CVHL came to OpenConcept Consulting Inc. with an outline, a list of requirements, and a budget. Sometimes a blank page can be a daunting task, but the CVHL team had a concrete concept of what they were looking for and a solid idea of what they could afford within their budget. Both of these atributes can be quite refreshing for a web development team!
CVHL is a one stop source of health information resources, as such, the primary functional requirement was a library-like cataloging system. In order to assist CVHL with their goal of “enhancing and increasing access to the many unique and valuable tools and resources for health professionals across the country”, their site would have to have a faceted and complex search mechanism. In order to work towards achieving this goal within their budget, we deployed the built-in Drupal search for this first phase launch.
The website was also required to be bilingual, which isn't all that different in our Canadian webscape, but to make it a little more challenging, we were required to make the back-end interface bilingual as well. We tackled this by working with CVHL and translating all the built-in strings. (Of note: As OpenConcept is very much an active participant in the on-going development of Drupal we committed these translation strings back to the Drupal community.) We also ensured that the entire site was only built with modules that supported localization / i18n compatible modules.
Utilizing Drupal and several of it most popular and well-supported modules, we were able achieve the web developers hat trick: we met our customers expectations, deployed the site in an efficient and timely manner AND came in under budget!
